The Wernick Method at Graves Mountain Farm
Living LOCAL Music Making in the Blue Ridge Mountains
October 28-29, 2022
And 2023 Jams
– Festival – June 1-4
– Halloween Oct 28-29
Pete Wernick’s inventive and time-tested method harnesses students’ natural wish to play music in a small group setting. Vince May is the lead teacher mentor for the Wernick Method weekends at Graves Mountain Farm and Lodges.
Learning to play with friends – to jam
With basic skills and good guidance, students start making music and having fun — almost immediately. Vince May, the weekend’s teacher, will show you the ropes of a bluegrass jam session, fitting in at your own ability level.
Learning your instrument with Wernick Method and Vince May
To learn an instrument, it’s best to start with simple accompaniment for songs, following easy chords. This establishes good rhythm — the essential foundation for good soloing which must be established first — for “soloing success”.
Who Should Join the Workshops
- No jamming experience necessary!
- Only four chords required to enroll: G, C, D, and A (basses and fiddles need to know which 2 or 3 notes go with those chords)
- Tab/note reading skills not needed or used
- Students must be able to tune their instrument (electronic tuners welcome)
